The event production business tends to attract certain types of people. We generally see three event producer personality types in this industry: the creative type, the anal-retentive detail type, and the adrenaline junkie type. It’s important to know which one you are so you can surround yourself with the other two types.
THE CREATIVE TYPE
- Out-of-the-box thinkers
- Passionate about designs or fashion
- Great visionaries who love to get their hands dirty
- Capable of seeing things others cannot and changing their minds many times in the creative process
- Fairly unorganized and not great with details and budgets
- Not big fans of pressure or conflict
- Focused on design more than practicality or common sense
THE ANAL-RETENTIVE TYPE
- Great at taking notes, with pronounced administrative and organizational skills
- Punctual and budget-conscious
- Not very creative and tend to struggle with vision
- More focused on common sense than design
- Known to micromanage and show evidence of sleepless nights
ADRENALINE JUNKIES
- Typically unaffected by pressure or deadlines
- Known to overlook details, but rarely lack ideas
- Not very sensitive- their feelings do not get hurt easily
- Creative and enthusiastic
- Willing to rise to any challenge- good or bad
- Known to veer away from fiscal discipline and common sense from time to time
Over time, you will acquire traits and skills of the other two “types,” but until then you need to find your other two mates. All three of these personality types are needed in order to be a successful event producer.
