Transitioning to Corporate Event Planning<\/strong><\/h1>\n

Transitioning to corporate event planning was never part of <\/span>Darren W. Johnson\u2019s<\/span><\/a> plan<\/span>. <\/span>In 1982, T<\/span>he Event U founder had just been released from the Marines where he was a jet mechanic<\/span>. One day,<\/span> working as a <\/span>truck driver<\/span>, he <\/span>was asked to <\/span>deliver<\/span> and set-up themed-<\/span>party <\/span>props<\/span> <\/span>at<\/span> <\/span>a hotel. Two weeks later,<\/span> he was offered a job as <\/span>the<\/span> Manager of <\/span>the <\/span>D<\/span>isplay<\/span> <\/span>D<\/span>ivision of that company,<\/span> launch<\/span>ing<\/span> his career in the industry<\/span> <\/span>with no event planning degree in hand.<\/span><\/p>\n

They enjoy the design side of things, not the practical stuff. <\/span>Budgeting <\/span>is not their strong <\/span>suit and they have a hard time handling pressure. <\/span><\/p>\n

These people are very focused on administrative tasks. They are budget-conscious, <\/span>they <\/span>stick to timelines, and <\/span>they make sure<\/span> everyone else does as well. <\/span><\/p>\n

On the other end, out-of-the-box thinking, visioning, and spontaneous decision-making are not part of their DNA. <\/span>They also tend to micromanage people.<\/span><\/p>\n

The <\/span>A<\/span>drenaline <\/span>J<\/span>unkie<\/span><\/strong><\/h6>\n

Adrenaline junkies<\/span> <\/span>are<\/span> the enthusiastic types\u2014those who like to get things done and always have a <\/span>good<\/span> mindset.<\/span> <\/span>They<\/span> <\/span>easily<\/span> overcome obstacles<\/span>,<\/span> <\/span>thanks<\/span> to their ability <\/span>to cope with<\/span> pressure<\/span> and their <\/span>focus<\/span> on the end goal<\/span>. <\/span>In fact, they can be so focused that they lose all<\/span> common sense <\/span>and don\u2019t keep track of the budget<\/span>. <\/span><\/p>\n

Bring<\/span> colleagues, partners, and vendors together throughout the <\/span>process<\/span> to work out and plan the details<\/span>. Collaboration is key. Thus, think of yourself as the <\/span>conductor<\/span> of the orchestra.<\/span><\/p>\n

Lastly, when you do make a mistake, learn from it. <\/span>Your credibility as a new corporate event planner depends on it. The quicker you recover, the more successful you will be. <\/span><\/p>\n
