Have you ever met a highly successful corporate event planner<\/a> that also managed their time poorly?<\/p>\n

Let’s face it, corporate event planning mastery doesn’t come without being able to master your time as well. You could have the greatest ideas, the biggest budget\u00a0and\u00a0the perfect venue<\/a>, but your event will still be a flop if you don’t control your hours.<\/p>\n

You’ve probably come across several “time management” resources throughout your career, but none of them will be any good unless you address one key factor…your attitude!<\/em><\/p>\n

Anybody can manage their time, but having the winning attitude and desire needed to change those unproductive\u00a0habits is what truly separates the productive, high-achieving event planners from their time-wasting counterparts.<\/p>\n

Most of our habits have been with us for years, they developed at some point in our childhood and few dare to challenge or change them when they’re no longer serving us. In fact, almost everything we say, think or do is governed by patterns of behavior that are mostly subconscious.<\/p>\n

That’s why you need a conscious and deliberate focus to identify your negative habits and start practicing more positive behaviors that will help you stay on track and on schedule.<\/p>\n

Here are a few of our favorite “time attitudes” that will bring you greater results…on time:<\/p>\n

1. Make a List<\/h2>\n

Most corporate event planners are familiar with list making but few take it beyond the current event they’re planning.<\/p>\n

Think long-term. What are the activities you want to complete during the next week based on your schedule<\/a> of upcoming events? What can you take on now to help clear your plate for your next event? What can you delegate to other members of your team?<\/p>\n

2.\u00a0Track Your Time<\/h2>\n

What gets measured gets managed. If you’re not tracking your time and where it’s being spent, you’re likely to keep falling behind. Keep track of everything you do in a week and how much time you spend on each task. Once you have a good sample size of time records, you’ll be able to clear identify what’s taking too long and where time is being wasted.<\/p>\n

3.\u00a0Tasks vs. Accomplishments<\/h2>\n

At the end of each day, take note of\u00a0what you’ve accomplished compared to what you set out to do. Not only does this ensure important tasks are being done, but it also helps you acknowledge your accomplishments and completed tasks. This will help you create and maintain momentum with completing your remaining tasks.<\/p>\n

4.\u00a0Do an Attitude Check!<\/h2>\n

List five habits or attitudes that aren’t serving you and create a plan to change them. After you’ve replaced these\u00a0negative behaviors, do a time analysis and see how much time you’ve saved as a result. You may be pleasantly surprised by how much time you really have in a day!<\/p>\n

Nobody likes deadlines, but meeting and beating them is simply part of the job! You have many hats to wear as an event planner, many of which can go unnoticed by your clients. With numerous tasks on your plate, it’s easy to enter scramble mode which leads to the dreaded\u00a0panic mode<\/em>.<\/p>\n
